Supernatural - "Sex and Violence"
So, men are slaughtering the most important women in their lives without any provocation whatsoever. The boys decide to investigate, and as it turns out, the men are doing it to be with what they believe to be their "perfect" woman. But, as it turns out, this perfect woman is a siren; a creature of Greek myth who's able to make men fall madly in love with them, and ultimately force them to do their bidding.
Not a bad episode. It was definitely an improvement over last week, and when it was all said and done with, I felt satisfied - and extremely angry. We'll touch upon the reasons for that anger later. Instead, let's concentrate on my favorite parts:
♠ Kiss the Cook -
Is weird that this was my second favorite part out of the entire episode?
I howled when I saw Bobby standing over the stove cooking in his adorable little apron, pretending to be an FBI agent while telling 'Rick' off over the telephone. I also loved the part when he hung up the phone, and you saw an entire wall of phones for every single situation.
I want my own Bobby... He's like a real-life swiss army knife. :D
♠ They take the form of whatever you desire most. -
For every single guy, it had been the woman of their dreams (with the name of a disney princess). And yet, with Dean, it was a guy who was into all of the same things he was? LOL. Talk about subtext...
Damn, I love this show.
♠ "Boo hoo."
I admit it: I have NEVER wanted to slap Sam as badly as I did then. All of the comments he made to Dean were extremely egotistical, and it left me with my jaw on the floor.
All Dean wanted was for Sam to be as open with him as he used to be. With Sam, however, it was an entirely different scenario. He claimed to be a better hunter, and - get this - he said that Dean was holding him back because he was too busy feeling sorry for himself thanks to all of the souls he had tortured in Hell?
Wow.
Well, excuse your brother, Sam. He's got that annoying little thing I like to call a conscience. Clearly, you lost yours in those four months you spent trying to drink yourself into an early grave because of the fact that you couldn't live on without your brother. Oh, wait- I seem to remember you doing the same exact thing in season two when you realized you had a dark destiny ahead of you. That, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call a fucking hypocrite.
Oh, and by the way Sam... Everything isn't alright.

Yeah I don't know why he thought things would be okay. They weren't okay after Asylum and they damn sure aren't going to be okay after this. I'm looking for Dean to withdraw and I'm sure Sam being the egotistal ass that he is won't even notice.

THANK YOU. Better hunter, my ass...

Agreed. I think this is going to push Dean towards Castiel a bit more. And, no, I don't mean that in the way it sounds. What I mean is that Dean's going to open up a bit more to Castiel, and it will ultimately develop a deeper bond between them.

The things Sam was saying to Dean? FUCK.
Poor Dean just fucking wants his little brother back. He wants him to be fucking honest with him. Not sneaking around and shit.
I loved this episode - even though seeing Dean and Sam fight makes my heart ache.
But on a shallow note - Jared's shoulders, back, lips, hair, arms...FUCK!
*hugs*

I was rooting for Dean through the entire duration of that fight because Sam has gotten to the point where he needs some sense knocked into him. He also needs for that ego to be deflated.

Exactly. All Dean wanted was for things to go back to where they used to be. Unfortunately, thanks to the events of this episode, I don't think that's ever going to happen.

I enjoyed this episode immensely, including the brawl between the brothers. Everything that was said had been boiling under the surface for quite some time, and it was time for the eruption. Still, I was blown away by Sam, and it left me with a whole new viewpoint of the character.

The man can do anything. Anything. Hell, if we to figure out how to clone him and Misha, we would be billionaires.

THIS. I can't believe Sam would say such a thing, especially to his own brother who just wanted to connect with him again.
ARGH! I feel like breaking something...

THIS.
Also, I didn't mention it in my own reaction, but Sam's comments pissed me RIGHT THE FUCK OFF as well. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, it's like the whole concept of the brother relationship has just completely left Sam's head. He's changed SO MUCH and it's NOT FOR THE GOOD, in my opinion.
I'm wondering if the siren's spell was actually making them blurt out hurtful truths or if it really was just things to spout in anger (making them say things they know the other won't want to hear?) But sadly, I don't think the latter is the case. D:

I couldn't believe it either, and I was left feeling absolutely appalled. And, you're right... Sam has changed drastically. So much so that I hardly even recognize him anymore.

I don't think the latter is the case either. I believe what the boys said to each other during that fight were things they had been dying to say for quite some time.

What Sam said was inexcusable to the point of me feeling sick. However, there is still some truth in what he is feeling. Dean is running from the demons, the angels, the war - everything - and Sam just wants to fight. He is frustrated and alone. He never asked for Dean to go in the first place, in fact, he would have never let Dean make that deal if he was still around. What he said crossed the line, for sure, and it was SO COLD, god - but remember - what Dean said was true, too. This Sam isn't the Sam we knew anymore.

I realize that. I was just being sarcastic.
What Sam said was inexcusable to the point of me feeling sick. However, there is still some truth in what he is feeling.
I disagree. Dean was forced to endure horrific atrocities while he was in Hell, and for the most part, he has dealt with it better than any other "normal" person would've.
Dean is running from the demons, the angels, the war - everything - and Sam just wants to fight. He is frustrated and alone.
Dean hasn't ran from anything, not even Alastair. He has been a very brave soul this season, despite everything he has endured. As for Sam being alone, that's his choice. In fact, that's what Dean brought up when he was infected by the siren; he said that he was tired of all of Sam's little secrets, and that he just wanted things to go back to the way they were.
He never asked for Dean to go in the first place, in fact, he would have never let Dean make that deal if he was still around.
That doesn't matter now. What's done is done.
What he said crossed the line, for sure, and it was SO COLD, god - but remember - what Dean said was true, too. This Sam isn't the Sam we knew anymore.
It was a low blow, especially considering the fact that it came from his own brother. Still, I agree with you: Sam is definitely not the person whom we all came to love through the first three seasons... And that breaks my heart.

OMG that is the best description of Bobby I've ever heard, LOL! It's so true... Bobby kicks some major ass :)
Seriously, I know I already wrote out my thoughts in my journal too but I didn't really touch on Sam's asshole nature as much as I should have... I mean, the things Dean said when he was under the siren's spell? Totally justified. What Sam said? I couldn't believe it. We already KNOW that what Dean said was stuff that was already on his mind previously thanks to the beginning of the episode, so does that mean these are things that have been floating around in Sam's head too? Eesh. Part of me really wishes Castiel would just smite him already :/
ETA: You know, I just had to add this... what a slap in the face to Dean! He was so worried about opening up about the whole hell thing and Sam told him that he cared and he wanted to help him... and then THIS? What a fucking slap in the face :/ Poor Dean. Maybe he really IS alone in this in the end :(
no subject
Indeed he does. He also seems to be the only one with any sense sometimes...

I believe so. Everything exchanged between those boys during that fight had been boiling under the surface for quite some time, and thanks to the siren, the kiddie gloves were removed and they were finally allowed to go at each other full force. Still, the things Sam said left me feeling angry and heart-broken...

I hadn't thought about it in those terms, but you're right. Oh, wow... That literally made my chest hurt. I can see right now that Dean's going to clam up completely. That or he's going to start opening up to Castiel instead.

What Sam said was wrong but so was that dammed brother of his , you want to piss all over Sam go ahead but Dean deserves it to so go on lets be honest about Dean go on !!!
no subject
He did it FOR Sam...
Sick to death of Dean bloody Winchester getting away with his dammed behaviour punchbag SAAMMY any one his nasty attitude since the premier and everybody excusing him .
What? Please elaborate. I'm failing to see your point.
What Sam said was wrong but so was that dammed brother of his ,
So Dean wanting his brother back the way he was is wrong? Okay, noted.
you want to piss all over Sam go ahead but Dean deserves it to so go on lets be honest about Dean go on !!!
Nobody's pissing all over Sam. We're just expressing our anger over what he said to Dean, which was damned uncalled for. All Dean wants is for Sam to stop hiding things from him, and yet what does Sam do? He metaphorically spits in his face.

And, the scene, that one scene that's burning up the internets? It made me want to bitch slap Sam. I knew it was coming and when Dean was saying his part, I knew that part was coming, and it needed to be said. But when Sam started talking...he literally blew my mind. It sounds like something he would say if he was trying to deflect Dean from the truth by saying some ridiculous lie...except we all know he was under the spell so what he was saying was obviously something he was really feeling.
I was really feeling Sam in the beginning, and even thought it was cute he was the one getting the action with the doctor instead of Dean, but the fact he slept with the doctor and didn't even say goodbye? Another huge sign of how much he's changed. Season 1 Sam would have never done that. Oh, Sam.

Boo hoo
right there? I wanted to SLAP Sam so damn hard!
like, really.
Dean told him how he wants his Sammy back, just his brother, and Sam?
all he says that he doesn't need Dean, that he holds him back and all that crap?!
wtf Sam?
makes me so damn sad, AND ANGRYYY! D:

Also? You're better off if you ignore some of the hardcore Sammy girls' comments *points a little further up* they're only seeking fights.

The subtext in this show. My goodness, I love it. I loved that Dean was underneath the spell of a GUY, supernatural creature siren sure, but in disguise of a GUY FOR GOODNESS SAKES! Slashy subtext is slashy, f'reals.
Agreed to everyting regarding Sam. I felt that Dean had given legitimate reasons for feeling the way he was towards his brother, but Sam? Oh hale naw, he just crossed the line. Calling Dean weak and a less effective hunter than him, and that apathetic "boo hoo" about Dean's pain over his time in Hell. Like you understand what Dean went through, Sam, c'mon. Even if it was the effect fo the siren spell they spoke the truth to each other, and you're right, everything IS NOT alright and will not be forgotten easily, especially since they're both on different paths at this point.
This was just a snippet of what's probably going to explode between the brothers later on, I can feel it. And I want that confrontation to happen, I really do, without the influence of supernatural whatever.

(Though it's wrong that Dean never asked his brother what was going on... He did it right in 4x01 and Sam lied)

Then mind your own business and don't pretend to care.
That boohoo I cannot forgive... Plus Sammy was way beyond bitchy even before being infected by the Siren.

Love your review. Not just this part, but the whole thing. ;)

Me too! Bobby is the man. And while there was a lot about the episode last night that I loved, that scene with him on the phone and seeing that wall of phones was probably my favorite element. I really love it when they show how ingenious Bobby and the boys can be.

Your just wayyyy more articulate than me. XD lol. My words fail me. I can not put things into a understandable way in TWO languages. *Sigh* I fail. XD
I agree also.

Someone on TWOP made the comment that Dean's pain is that he broke in hell and tortured others, not really that he was tortured himself (he seems almost proud of that, of his response when he was the one on the rack), but Sam lashes out at Dean, not for breaking, but for feeling guilty over it. And man, that? That shit is dark. And Sam's implication by that is that he would have survived Hell just fine, thanks much, and Dean was weak, which is why he couldn't. And that also is scary - if Sam is "strong" enough to take on Hell itself, if he honestly thinks he could survive or even thrive in that environment, what does that say for what he's become?
I can't wait to see the ramifications of this episode dealt with. And the next time Sam asks Dean to open up, I hope he gets bitchslapped for it. There's a huge wedge between the brothers now and it's one that I can't see going away any time soon.

who says the sammy that came back from the dead was sammy,
lets think about this, lilith didn't make the deal she bought out the marker, crossroads demon says that and it's like the wishes, they got what they wanted but it was corrupted and twisted and ultimately bad (dean=food poisoning, suicidal teddies that kind of thing)
John was different, we SAW that! the boy in 73 ws nothing like the man we knew so maybe sam's inevitable fall is to do with his death. Demons brought him back, but it was angels that brought dean back, it might be another part of the divide
i wouldn't be surprised if the fangirls have it on this one and dean leads one army and sam the other, and instead of good and evil it reveals itself to be them and us

1. DEAN'S PERFECT PERSON IS A MAN. A MAN WHO IS INTO ALL THE SAME THINGS AS HIM AND THINKS HE'S MAGNIFICENT, AND HAS DARK HAIR.
2. SAM IS A DICK. omg but I already totes knew that.
i have to throw in my two cents

Hahaha. Yeah, I found that amusing as well. :D
Oh, the fight. It was so hard. I didn't like what Sam said, Dean wasn't saying anything mean to him. I try to justify Sam's words, but that's impossible. :( I hope they can fix this. <333
