Supernatural - "Heaven and Hell"
Kripke... You truly are a magnificent bastard. I love you. And for those of you wondering why I am completely enamored with the Kripkeeper right now, check out my thoughts on tonight's episode by clicking the cut-link below.
This episode right here was superb. Now, granted, it still doesn't match up to my all-time favorite episode - that of course being All Hell Breaks Loose Part 2 - but it was good nonetheless. Everyone played the roles perfectly, and I completely nailed exactly why it was that the angels wanted Anna dead in one of the theories I had thrown by
zed_pm in our many discussions pertaining to Supernatural.
Another thing, this episode made my fangirl heart explode on at least three occasions. Seriously, Kripke... You're killing me here.
Let's break it down:
1. Anna was, in fact, a fallen angel -
Zed, are you hearing this? I nailed it, bb! \o/
If you think about it, that was the only thing that could possibly explain her abilities. And you know what? I loved that little plot-twist. And, no... It wasn't because I predicited it; it was because it added a whole new level of potential character development for Castiel.
Think about it: Castiel is already beginning to think in the same exact fashion that Anna once did - which leads one to believe that he may indeed fall from grace one day. And personally, I believe that he will. The reason for his fall? Dean.
2. The "Titanic" scene in the back of the Impala -
I admit it... I LOL'd. Seriously, people, that scene was going so well until they did that. I was sitting there with my mother and we both rolled our eyes and chuckled. Not cool, Mr. Tobin... Not cool. It was also completely unoriginal.
Other than that though, I was satisfied. So, meh... I guess I can live with the laughable "hand on sweaty window" there at the end. LOLZ.
3. Uriel threatening Dean in his dreams -
This scene explained why it was that Castiel asked what Dean was dreaming about in the episode "In the Beginning" in such a smug manner. It also made my fangirl heart go boom boom because Uriel confirmed what a fair portion of the fanbase has suspected all along: Castiel has feelings for Dean. Now, as for what those feelings are, that's left up to one's own interpetation.
4. The look Castiel gave Dean when Anna kissed him -
I'm sorry, people, but there is no denying that one. The camera deliberately zoomed in on Castiel when they kissed, showing us the look of hurt on his face, and him ultimately cutting his eyes away. And, no... It had nothing to do with Anna because that wouldn't make sense at this point in the series. That look was because Dean was kissing her. There's no convincing me otherwise.
Castiel's feelings for Dean... I'm sorry, but from what I've learned in my pursuit of psychology - along with studying people's body language - that look meant that Castiel's feelings for Dean go beyond that of an angel looking out for his human mission. This train of thought is also further backed up by what Uriel said to Dean.
5. Alastair almost killed Castiel -
Yet again I will admit to something: I screamed at my television. I swear, I felt my heart jump up into my throat when that scene took place. In fact, I may or may not have shouted out: "Dean? Sam? Uri? God dammit, will somebody please him?!!"
Kripke... You're a sadistic SOB. You deliberately put that part in there because you knew how we would react. Although, I guess that also further proves that you're a genius... I hate you.
6. Dean saved Castiel -
*slasher heart jumps with glee*
7. Oh, my God... Kripke killed Alastair. You bastard! -
Why? Why did you have to kill him off? He was so damn badass despite his strange voice. *sobs*
8. Dean confesses his sins to Sam -
I'm not sure what I think about this scene. On the one hand, my heart broke for Dean. To think that he lasted for thirty years going through something like that? It's horrific just to try and imagine it... Let alone live through it.
Which of course brings up the part that has got me conflicted: Dean isn't acting like someone who was tortured for thirty years, and then later forced to do the torturing on other people for ten. I'm sorry Kripkeeper, but something just doesn't jive there because there's no way that Dean would come out of something like that and be in the stable psychological state he appears to be in now. It's impossible. The damage to his mentaility would be extensive.
Still, Jensen sucessfully broke me with this scene...
This episode was great, but it failed to meet the 'epic' scale.

I'M GOING TO ICON THE FUCK OUT OF THAT SCENE. I SCREAMED A BIT AND JUMPED OUT OF MY CHAIR AND BOUNCED AROUND THE ROOM. IT'S CANON.
I screamed at my television. I swear
SAME. OH MY GOD, SAME.
I WAS SO UPSET WHEN ALASTAIR DIED. HE IS DEAD RIGHT? KAJDSDJSJD WHEN HE AND URIEL WERE EXCHANGING WITTY BANTER I THOUGHT MY SCREEN WOULD COMBUST FROM THE AWESOMENESS.

You damn right it's canon. And please, please tell me that you're going to icon it, bb. I swear, I will jump up and down if you do.
I WAS SO UPSET WHEN ALASTAIR DIED. HE IS DEAD RIGHT? KAJDSDJSJD WHEN HE AND URIEL WERE EXCHANGING WITTY BANTER I THOUGHT MY SCREEN WOULD COMBUST FROM THE AWESOMENESS.
Oh, God, yessss. I loved that.

There's no way this season doesn't end with canon Dean/Castiel. *dons tinhat*
Thank you, my dear. That's exactly what I was thinking.

Now the Catiel thing which hello my lord you expounded on forever yes. I noticed that ALOT!!!!!!
Now he's not going to fall right now because hello mortal peril with the seals but I feel like he's not far from it. He was none to pleased to see that Uriel had Anna's grace either.
I think Uriel has a prideful and envious heart and we know what they say about pride.
I think we'll see more breaks in Dean's psychy it's not going to happen all at once with him. He's already been doing a lot of drinking and if you'll notice Sam's been doing a hell of a lot of leading and Dean following. Sometimes you forget though Dean's way of dealing with things is to hide them and that's going to come into play here especially when he's so ashamed of them.
I was also yelling at the tv over Castiel almost dying and damn if it wasn't Dean saving him, I was very giddy about that turn of events. :)

A good question it is. Maybe all Anna did was send him back to Hell. Who knows?
Now the Catiel thing which hello my lord you expounded on forever yes. I noticed that ALOT!!!!!!
I've got a one-track-castiel-mind. Sue me. :P
Now he's not going to fall right now because hello mortal peril with the seals but I feel like he's not far from it.
I never said that he would fall right now. I know better than that. I was just pointing out the fact that he may very well indeed fall in the future.
I think Uriel has a prideful and envious heart and we know what they say about pride.
I noticed that, I didn't like it one bit...
I think we'll see more breaks in Dean's psychy it's not going to happen all at once with him. Yes, that is true. I just figured that Dean's downward spiral would be happening at a much quicker pace than it currently is.
I was also yelling at the tv over Castiel almost dying and damn if it wasn't Dean saving him, I was very giddy about that turn of events. :)
I was beaming like an idiotic fangirl when that took place. Seriously, only the Kripke can bring out that side of me...

Uriel grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Uriasssss
I'm curious about the Alistair because they never ever get rid of the really bad guys that easy and fast.
Dean is a complicated man, when we first saw him he was very one deminsional but as time went on there are layers upon layers and I think that's why we haven't seen a complete break down he's insulated himself for so many years it's a fail safe and he's gone back to it. But there are cracks and fault lines running through it.
Yes Dean saves Cass, Cass saves Dean, but Anna can cover the handprint but it will always be Cass' mark on Dean's body.
no subject
Now, now... Be nice to Uriel. He did take out two demons afterall.
Agreed. And he's one baddie that I would love to have back on the show. Although I would trade him in for Azazel any day of the week.
I've never thought about it in that context, but you're right where Dean's concerned.
I must admit that the part where Anna put her hand over Cas' mark on Dean pissed me off slightly... But like you said, that's Cas' mark and nothing will ever change it.
no subject
I did laugh during Dean's "stick where the sunshines" speech.
no subject
LOL. I must admit that I chuckled at that as well.
no subject
And honestly that would be a really odd but interesting twist to have Castiel fall from grace to be with Dean, not that I think it will happen, but you never know.
no subject
Now the real question is whether or not Castiel's feelings for Dean would be unrequited.

Ahem.
I loved this episode. And you weren't the only one screaming at the TV. Well, I wasn't screaming, because Mr. Po3 would have looked at me funny, but I was thinking REALLY LOUDLY in my head.
Jensen hit that last scene out of the park. I was in tears. He broke me too.
I can't believe they killed Alastair. I'm kind of hoping he's not really dead, but it's kind of hard to survive what happened, or so I'm assuming.
no subject
Jensen was amazing. That guy had me crying like a baby... It wasn't pretty, and to be brutally honest with you, I was embarrassed. I never cry!
Like you, I am hoping that Alastair will indeed return to the series later. I loved that guy something fierce, and I'll be very disappointed if we never see him again. Still, I don't see how he could've survived...
no subject
Mr. Po3 was looking at me strangely while I was crying. He was all, "wtf? It's a tv show!" To which I said, "Yes, but it's Deeeeeeeean. You don't understand."
Alastair is a super demon. Sam couldn't exorcise him, so I'm holding out hope against hope that we'll see him again. I'd love to see Dean take him out once and for all. I think that'd be fitting.

If the two of them had a 'romantic' history, then why didn't he choose to fall with her? Another thing, Anna pointed out that the reason she fell was because of the fact that angels were incapable of feeling anything. She stood by watching the world, and she finally got to the point where she had had enough.
The history he spoke of was most likely her being his and Uriel's boss. Nothing more. Still, you're free to believe whatever you so choose. It's just that us slashers are enjoying the high this episode left us with. :)
no subject
Means only four angels actually know - or have a clue - about what he really feels for them. Does he really love his angels, or just reguard them the same way we think about forks and spoons, guns and bullets?
Anna said, no emotions. Like marble statues. If God created them that way, I'd call them plants. They live, they breathe, but they don't talk back or love. And judging from Uriel's reaction to Castiel's life threatening situation - no one gives a fuck whether they die.
Anna - an angel - had people who loved her here on Earth as a daughter. And as crude as Uranus wants to be about scoring some angel cake, Dean cared about her - hell, Sam and Ruby cared about her - enough to throw down against all comers. Dean only cracked when it came to Sam, and Anna gave him what angels probably long for - if they could long for anything - she gave him unconditional forgiveness, and shared a kiss with him. Maybe it's not deathless passion and soul bonding love, but it's a kind of love. Comrades in arms, friends.
When you glick over to Dean being the one to notice - to CARE - that Castiel was about to be obliterated, yeah. You got one seriously messed up Angelboy coming up.

Oh, I like you, my dear. :D

HE TOTALLY WANTS TO HAVE DEAN'S BABIES!
Anna as a fallen angel was a little predictable, but I thought the actress did a great job with the material she had for tonight.
I seriously can't get enough of the slashyness of this episode!
I too had a panic attack when Alastair had his hands wrapped around Castiel's pretty neck. That scene was way way too long. The Winchesters, especially Sam, seemed awfully slow tonight in battle. I guess they expected the Angels to do all the work.. dunno. Still.. if Eric Kripke does that again... *sharpens knives*

HO SHIT THIS.
DUDE, HE WAS SO EPIC (but srsly where the fuck was his accent from?!)

I admit it... I LOL'd. Seriously, people, that scene was going so well until they did that.
I'm still wondering if it was some kind of joke or a bet; I just laughed so hard at this one, harder than I was already laughing at the whole scene actually XD
IMO that was nothing but awkward and cheesy.
I is bad fangirl.
Zed, are you hearing this? I nailed it, bb! \o/
That's it! You get your Jensen revoked for a week. NO FLAUNTING ALLOWED.
...which leads one to believe that he may indeed fall from grace one day. And personally, I believe that he will. The reason for his fall? Dean.
That would explain the "We had history" line. Hmmmm.
Also, I'm logging this prediction for later. :P
I admit it... I LOL'd. Seriously, people, that scene was going so well until they did that. I was sitting there with my mother and we both rolled our eyes and chuckled.
The only thought that crossed my mind was "SOMEBODY GET THE BLEACH.' No kidding. I wanted the Impala hosed down. I was even screaming at her to get off the hood when she was leaning on it earlier. Bad, bad zed...
It also made my fangirl heart go boom boom because Uriel confirmed what a fair portion of the fanbase has suspected all along: Castiel has feelings for Dean. Now, as for what those feelings are, that's left up to one's own interpetation.
Um. Yeah. I just don't know anymore...
Maybe it's because Castiel has worked so hard to get Dean to do what was right and the he goes and kisses the very thing they're hunting? Could that be it? STOP SHAKING YOUR HEAD NO. XP
But, the camera did do a good zooming job. I enjoyed that shot. NOOOOOM
I swear, I felt my heart jump up into my throat when that scene took place. In fact, I may or may not have shouted out: "Dean? Sam? Uri? God dammit, will somebody please him?!!"
This bugged me quite a bit for a number of reasons, but I will try and be brief. Other than Alastair ruining the moment of Castiel actually doing some fighting of his own (GUUUUUH), I also found it hard to believe that the same Angel who rased a forest and imprinted his hand on a human would fail to overcome a demon of whatever "rank." But, there's a whole lot more to why I feel that way and I know it'll bore you, so...yeah.
NEXT! LOL
Although, I guess that also further proves that you're a genius... I hate you.
Like I said last week, he's probably just sitting back and taking it all in whilst laughing at at the fans. XP
6. Dean saved Castiel -
*slasher heart jumps with glee*
I think that is a major development, almost as major as how Dean was the one to give Anna up. WHICH I TOTALLY CALLED. phft.
7. Oh, my God... Kripke killed Alastair. You bastard! -
Why? Why did you have to kill him off? He was so damn badass despite his strange voice. *sobs*
Did he die? I guess he did...
I'm sorry, but I just have to insert here how BEAUTIFUL Castiel looked when he was staring at Anna transform or whatever the heck she was doing. I think I almost started crying....then I was all like "I TOTALLY NEED AN ICON OF THAT." XD
Also, this scene need one thing: JOHN WINCHESTER. Can you just imagine that?? *ponders* Mmmm....
*snaps back to the real world*
I'm sorry Kripkeeper, but something just doesn't jive there because there's no way that Dean would come out of something like that and be in the stable psychological state he appears to be in now. It's impossible. The damage to his mentaility would be extensive.
Yes to ALL of the above. As much as I ADORE Dean, this particular point has been played out all wrong. :(
Jensen was AMAZING. *huggles him*
This episode was great, but it failed to meet the 'epic' scale.
It was pretty epic where pornos are concerned...DID I JUST SAY THAT?
Whoops...*goes back to hidey hole*
At the end of the episode I found myself wondering what the heck all of this had to do with anything. Now, I don't know about you, but I was just a little perturbed. It was nice to see Castiel and Uriel kicking major demon butt, but...what was the point?
Also, I'm not even gonna start on the whole her grace landed in a tree thing...THE HECK WAS THAT ABOUT????? That's like Doctor Who material right there.
Re: I is bad fangirl.
*scoffs*
Well, fine then. *snatches misha, lee and jared*
Also, I'm logging this prediction for later. :P
He's going to fall - it's inevitable. Hell, I'll even theorize why: He disobeys an order from above to take out Dean, ultimately leading to an epic showdown between him and Uriel.
Doesn't that sound awesome? Oh, I can just imagine the pained expression that would be on his face when he turns back to look at Dean before uttering the words "I'm sorry" right before charging towards Uriel.
*zones out while contemplating the epicness of that statement*
The only thought that crossed my mind was "SOMEBODY GET THE BLEACH."
I must admit that that scene was indeed a bit... awkward. But hey, Dean!Porn, bb. Dean!Porn. It makes the world go 'round.
By the way, did you think of me when Sam made that remark to Dean about porn and reality? You did, didn't you?
Maybe it's because Castiel has worked so hard to get Dean to do what was right and the he goes and kisses the very thing they're hunting? Could that be it?
No. It was because he was jealous. STOP TRYING TO DESTROY MY DELUSIONS!
But, the camera did do a good zooming job. I enjoyed that shot. NOOOOOM
The cameraman was CLEARLY a Misha fanboy. I mean, come on... Just look at those shots. They were magnificent.
Other than Alastair ruining the moment of Castiel actually doing some fighting of his own (GUUUUUH), I also found it hard to believe that the same Angel who rased a forest and imprinted his hand on a human would fail to overcome a demon of whatever "rank."
Castiel was in his true form when he ripped Dean out of Hell, and slammed him back into his coffin. So, yeah... It could be because the vessel is unable to handle his full power.
Like I said last week, he's probably just sitting back and taking it all in whilst laughing at at the fans. XP
I can only imagine how hard he LOL'd at my post then. XD
Kripke, I know you're there reading our porn!fics and crack!theories. You haven't got me fooled.
I think that is a major development, almost as major as how Dean was the one to give Anna up. WHICH I TOTALLY CALLED. phft.
Yeah, yeah... You called it. *gives cookie and 30 minutes with jensen*
Did he die? I guess he did...
I re-watched the episode today, and from my point of view, Alastair was completely obliterated by the flash of light around Anna. So, yeah... I guess so.
I'm sorry, but I just have to insert here how BEAUTIFUL Castiel looked when he was staring at Anna transform or whatever the heck she was doing.
Oh, God, yessss. He was just simply gorgeous. And the way those baby blues shined? Oh, man... It killed me.
Also, this scene need one thing: JOHN WINCHESTER. Can you just imagine that??
Honey, our televison sets would've exploded from the sheer awesomeness.
It was pretty epic where pornos are concerned...DID I JUST SAY THAT?
To quote Sam: "I'm not touching that line with a ten-foot pole."
At the end of the episode I found myself wondering what the heck all of this had to do with anything. Now, I don't know about you, but I was just a little perturbed. It was nice to see Castiel and Uriel kicking major demon butt, but...what was the point?
I'll tell you what I've told others:
"I believe the entire reason for including Anna in the story was to foreshadow what's ahead for our favorite angel because he's beginning to think in the same exact fashion she once did."
We also learned exactly what happened with Sam during those four months, along with what happened to Dean in Hell. There's also the bit we learned about Castiel and his feelings for Dean, so yeah... I felt that these two episodes were necessary for developing the overall storyline.
Also, I'm not even gonna start on the whole her grace landed in a tree thing...THE HECK WAS THAT ABOUT????? That's like Doctor Who material right there.
Her grace was what grew the tree. It actually made sense. However, the whole 'having her grace in a necklace' was hilarious because I immediately thought of the Doctor's fob watch.
The Kripkeeper has been known to watch the Sci-fi Channel (Ghost Hunters), so maybe he watches Doctor Who as well? ;P
Re: I is bad fangirl.
XP
He disobeys an order from above to take out Dean, ultimately leading to an epic showdown between him and Uriel.
I don't wanna think about it. It all makes me sad. Cause no doubt he'll sacrifice himself in the end and THEN WHAT WILL WE DO???? D: *despairs*
...he turns back to look at Dean before uttering the words "I'm sorry" right before charging towards Uriel.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
*weeps* I could see that perfectly in my head and it made me wanna cry. :(
*zones out while contemplating the epicness of that statement*
Stop with your epicness! I can't take it all right now. Save some for the rest of the hiatus, bb!
*breathes slowly in and out*
*calms*
By the way, did you think of me when Sam made that remark to Dean about porn and reality? You did, didn't you?
Possibly. *looks around* I think it should be your new motto. ;)
STOP TRYING TO DESTROY MY DELUSIONS!
HAHA I knew you'd love me for that.
I mean, come on... Just look at those shots. They were magnificent.
Agreed. I can imagine the whole episode was originally shot just staring at Misha the whole time and you only knew what was going on by how the looks changed on his face. Then, they probably slapped the camera man and re-shot everything. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MAGICAL. 0_0
It could be because the vessel is unable to handle his full power.
Darn. When the angels and demons started going at the other night, I was all like they're gonna run at each other and then there's gonna be like this blinding light when they clash and blah blah blah. And, then the just ran into each other and started fighting like people and I was all like MERF. Can you imagine Castiel in his true form fighting a demon in it's true form??? The mixing of the white wings and the black smoke and the....*wanders off in thought* Woooooo. *fans self*
...
I can only imagine how hard he LOL'd at my post then. XD
He probably printed it out and saved it in his BIG BOOK OF CRAZY. X)
Yeah, yeah... You called it. *gives cookie and 30 minutes with jensen*
Hey! I already stole Jensen. You're supposed to give me Misha or something. *pouts*
And the way those baby blues shined? Oh, man... It killed me.
OH YES. YEEEEESSSSS. His eyes were like this solid, deep blue that just burrowed into your soul and---ahem....never mind...
Honey, our televison sets would've exploded from the sheer awesomeness.
HAHA TOTALLY!! I can just see him walking in and everything just blowing up because trying to fight would be pointless. LOL Dang, I miss John.
To quote Sam: "I'm not touching that line with a ten-foot pole."
I see you hiding behind Sammy there. XD
"I believe the entire reason for including Anna in the story was to foreshadow what's ahead for our favorite angel because he's beginning to think in the same exact fashion she once did."
That's a very elaborate scheme, but I guess you're right. *sighs*
Also, I've been thinking about how much I don't want Castiel's meat suit to die. UNLESS he falls and just stays in that person, which...would probably not happen. :/ Also, I don't want him to come back as a baby cause that would suck....for us.
I felt that these two episodes were necessary for developing the overall storyline.
*grumbles* I think I got the most out of Castiel...
However, the whole 'having her grace in a necklace' was hilarious because I immediately thought of the Doctor's fob watch.
Yeah. It took me a minute to realise that the tree came from her grace. *slaps forehead* Again, I was distracted..and not paying all that much attention. *is a bad person*
But, yeah the fob watch is exactly what I thought of. LOL
The Kripkeeper has been known to watch the Sci-fi Channel (Ghost Hunters), so maybe he watches Doctor Who as well? ;P
As he should! Oh! Maybe that's who they modeled Castiel's hair after! lol I always thought it looked a little Ten-ish. X)
P.S. Has anyone ever told you how distracting your sidebar animations are? A comment that should only take me five minutes to respond to ends up taking me like twenty because I see Castiel staring at me all the time. Not that I'm complaining, but...*stares some more*
no subject
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a problem with that. I loved that whole scene at the end and Jensen did an amazing job with it, but it just doesn't work for me. Dean's not behaving like he went through all that. I mean, no one bounces back from an experience like that and is able to pretend that nothing happened. Dean's now technically spent more time in hell than he has on earth o.O
Other than that...I loved the episode. Castiel was awesome! And I was really scared for a minute when Alistair got him...but Dean saving him made me a happy fangirl <3

carriage window in the storage levels of that great and mighty shipImpala window, I was all ARGH CAN NOT WATCH THIS, LEO.Still. Overall Frowziness and Obviousness made up for the awkward horror of Titanic Scene.
I'm completely with you on the unrealisticness of Dean being a-ok all Season apart from the last three minutes of the episode about spending ten years as a soul torturer. He's been remarkably compartmentalised and stable despite events that would have sent anyone else either insane or into a deep dark pit of depression.

Titanic = BIG LOL EVER. But also, Dean said Power Rangers! He's totally my hero, yes XDD
Castiel has feelings for Dean. Now, as for what those feelings are, that's left up to one's own interpetation.
YESYESYES. I liked all this a lot, because it was what I was thinking since the very beginning. Aww, I suppose you know my interpretation ;)
4. I totally agree with you hear. I haven't studied psychology but a year (last year, actually) that I had the subject in the high school. But I still think the same. I mean... first of all, the camera zoomed him, it has to mean something and then the look in his eyes. Nobody is gonna convince me. Well, nobody is trying, actually xD Most of the people I know (not Cas/Dean shippers) think the same. I suppose you can have your own interpretation of what feelings are, as you said, but nobody can doubt anymore that there's something beyond the angel-human feelings there.
With Alastair trying to kill Cas and Dean saving him and then the thing about the promise... Well, I was all jumping like 'OHMYGOD, KRIPKE, YOU CAN'T DO THIS, YOU BASTARD!' Hahaha. I knew that he wouldn't kill him, but at this moment I didn't even think XD It was Castiel! LOL. And Dean saving him... They're soooo cute ♥ XD
I wanted Alastair to stay some more episodes! ;__;
The last part... I think the same. It was a long time. 40 years! 30 being tortured and 10 torturing. Everyday. No rest. Just, the same one day and another and another... And Dean seems so... normal. But as you said... Jensen was awesome crying at this scene. I cried with him.
Oh, and we haven't any more episodes until january :OOO
