It took me a few minutes to gather my thoughts after this twisted, yet hilarious episode. Said thoughts are under the cut.
Tonight's episode of Supernatural shall forever be listed amongst the 'strangest' television episodes I've ever seen. A wishing well? An emo!teddy who likes porn and girly booze? Dude, where exactly did the Winchesters make that wrong turn which ended them up in the Twilight Zone? I was half-way expecting Rod Serling to make a special cameo appearance from beyond the grave.
Now, don't get me wrong... My statement above isn't meant to insinuate that the episode was bad. On the contrary, I found this episode to be an absolute BLAST.
Let's break it down:
1. Waiter at the beginning -
Oh, come on... Who didn't love this guy? He had perfect hair, clearly had a thing for the Winchesters, and he ended every statement with 'awesome'. And don't even get me started on the looks Dean gave him.
2. Dean wanting to save 'some naked women' -
That's our boy! Always thinking with his downstairs brain. We love you, bb.
3. An emo!bear with a taste for 'busty asian beauties' and girly flavored liquor -
The jewel of this entire episode was this bear... I don't care what anybody says. I swear, I laughed my ass off every single time he was on-screen. Whether it was him bitchin' about the war in Iraq and whether or not life was worth living, or trying to blow his stuffings out only to fail and scream out "why" in an overly dramatic tone... Seriously, this was hysterical. And slightly disturbing considering the fact that Ben successfully caused me to laugh at the suicide attempt of a child's toy.
Dude, you and the Kripkeeper are corrupting me... Stop it. By the way, I want one of these teddy bears for Christmas. kthnx.
4. "We're teddy bear doctors." -
Is that a fact? Well then, my stuffed teddy, Alex... He's been a little under the weather as of late. You guys think you could stop by my house next Thursday, and give him a 'physical'? I'd appreciate it. *wink*
5. So do we shoot it? -
This conversation was priceless. I don't think I have laughed as hard during a converse between these two over killing something as I did then.
6. "Run, Forest, run!" -
Dean, stop it. That's the second time in two episodes that you've picked on a little kid. Behave yourself or else I'll send Castiel to smite your ass. And I don't mean that in a good way.
7. Dean getting manhandled by said kid -
See? It doesn't pay does it?
8. What's poking me? Oh, it's Invisiboy! -
This guy was awesome in a very pathetic and sad way. And did anybody else notice how Sam's eyes diverted down? Uh-huh. I see whut you did thar, Sammy. You don't have anybody fooled. We know. And, OMG... Dean hit the poor boy with the Impala! D:
9. Sammy being blasted out of his shoes -
*laughs until she's unable to breathe*
10. "It's all up here." -
And thus the gut-wrenching ending. Considering the fact that I'm currently studying psychology, I'm very anxious to see how Kripke and Co. handle Dean's mental state through the course of the rest of this season. Judging from what Dean told Sam, the acts he had to endure were just simply atrocious... No one experiences something like that, and isn't mentally damaged in some way or another.
Another thing that broke my heart was the fact that Dean is having to bear the burden of those said memories on his own because he can't bring himself to tell Sam about them.
You're breaking me here, Kripke...
Fantastic episode, as par for the course where this series is concerned.
Kitsu's Final Grade: B
As for next week, all I'm going to say is: squeak.

For one, the ending to this episode hit me like a ton of bricks. I honestly didn't see it coming. Plus, it also gave the impression that Dean has had these memories from the moment he was resurrected.
I also don't see how he could possibly communicate these atrocious memories to Sam either. He may indeed try in the future, but I don't know how successful he will be. The human mind in incapable of processing something like that. In other words, Sam will have to experience it for himself before he's able to grasp just how horrific it was for Dean in Hell.

Now, I gave this ep an A simply because I had half expected it to be more lack-luster than what we got and THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. Both the angst, the boys working TOGETHER nearly the ENTIRE TIME and the humor and the angst, well, I'm telling ya, more like Season 1 and 2 than we've gotten in a long while.
Oh, and weren't BOTH boys so pretty this ep? Sometimes, one or the other of them catches me more, but this time? DROOL!
LOL.. the bear. God. No scene with that bear didn't leave me with tears of laughter. ANYTHING about the bear left me rolling, particularly the boys talking about if they needed to off the thing. God.. HIL larious.
But the end.. Yikes!!! The end! I was reminded .. season1 ? Where Dean was trying to get Sam to talk about his nightmares about Jessica's death and at the end of that ep he told Dean that there were some things he'd just have to keep to himself. This moment about Dean's time in the pit, reminded me of that. Really broke my heart.
OH, pretty boys. Man.. I'm watching again.. I want LOTS and LOTS of icons and wallpapers of the boys in this ep. Coz.. DAAAAAMN!

Excellent review! I agree totally with everything.
Thank you.

I gave it a B rating because of the fact that there were a few things in the episode that just felt off to me. But other than that it was a stellar episode; easily one of the funniest I've ever seen in any fandom.
I also thoroughly enjoyed the boys working together, but I still want that slight rift, you know? It adds to the angst, and makes for some compelling television. I also want to see more of Dean and Castiel's developing relationship.

Both boys were absolutely gorgeous in this episode. I especially loved Jared's hair.

That bear is going to be what's responsible for making this a classic episode in the SPN universe. Seriously, he was fantastic. And the bit at the end where the little girl was carrying him around with a giant hole in the back of his head? Well, that made me laugh also.
I'm such a horrible person...

Oh, wow... I had completely forgotten about that, but you're right. Damn. I really do need to go back and re-watch seasons 1-3. It's been a while.

I'm in agreement with you there. In fact, I've already watched for a second time, and I plan on doing it later on today. LOL. And, yes... We need icons because the boys were especially pretty in this episode.

WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO FIND YOU A 6 FOOT TEDDY BEAR THAT DRINKS AND READS PORN??
Is there some kind of teddy bear emporium I can run to? o_0
No one experiences something like that, and isn't mentally damaged in some way or another.
The TVGuide said that he left part of himself down there.
Hmmmmm.
