Still, that doesn't justify the fact that he was killing off his own siblings. They were innocent, ultimately just following the orders of their superiors like they were expected to do.
As did I. In fact, when she first appeared to Castiel, I looked at my mother and said "she's your traitor" because it was at that moment that the pipe valve had turned and begun to leak.
Castiel was truly Dean's pillar of strength during this episode because - like you said - Dean had reached his breaking point. The pressure of all of this is beginning to weigh heavy on him, and yet instead of opening up to his brother, he opens up to Castiel instead.
